WHO: The Thumb Community Health Partnership which is made up of four health departments, four mental health authorities, eight hospitals, and a human service agency in Huron, Sanilac, Tuscola and Lapeer Counties is sponsoring this project.
Man Therapy project includes an innovative strategy to help working age men seek free and anonymous screening. It uses an online platform to provide help-seeking tools that reduce suicide ideation and behavior.
WHY: After reviewing health indicators for the region, the Thumb Community Health Partnership identified behavioral health as a priority area. In the thumb area there are many residents who have unmanaged behavioral health conditions and it impacts the quality and length of life. There are very few resources strictly for men in the area. Man Therapy is an opportunity to provide resources specifically for men. Since seeking traditional mental health services for help does not fit with what is often the community's definition of masculinity, many are left struggling in silence, feeling isolated, and alone with their pain.
WHAT: is a website that includes local resources, head inspections, and provides a humorous spin to working age men who are struggling with depression anger and anxiety from all the comfort of their home.
HOW: Man Therapy is a ready-made digital campaign that has been designed to connect men to local resources. The Thumb Community Health Partnership will be implementing a community outreach and marketing campaign to help men learn about the program.
