Are you ready to embark on a journey of empathy, understanding, and actionable change? Welcome to our curated list of upcoming Bridges Out of Poverty trainings and Poverty Simulations! These sessions serve as beacons of hope, guiding individuals, organizations, and communities towards a deeper comprehension of poverty and its systemic impacts. Through engaging workshops, insightful discussions, and practical tools, these trainings offer a pathway towards fostering inclusive communities and empowering those affected by poverty. These trainings and simulations are made possible through a partnership with the Thumb Opioid Response Consortium.

Framework for Understanding Poverty - Book Study Summer 2025

A Framework for Understanding Poverty By Ruby Payne, Ph.D.

Join us for a powerful 4-part book study exploring the groundbreaking insights of Ruby Payne’s A Framework for Understanding Poverty: A Cognitive Approach for Educators, Policymakers, Employers, and Service Providers.

What You’ll Gain:

·     A deeper understanding of the hidden rules of economic class

·     Strategies to better support students and families in poverty

·     Tools to bridge gaps and build stronger connections with your students and families

 

4 One-Hour Sessions This Summer:

·     June 18th, 12-1

·     July 16th, 12-1

·     July 30th, 12-1

·     August 13th, 12-1

Format:

·     Virtual (easy to attend from anywhere, even vacation!)

·     Google Meet Invites will be sent after the registration window closes on June 13th

 

Earn SCECHs!

·     Eligible participants will receive State Continuing Education Clock Hours.

·     SCECHs awarded based on the number of sessions completed (1 per date)

Sandusky Poverty Simulation - Sandusky High School, August 19th

Experience the Daily Struggles of Low-Income Life — Without Leaving the Gym

Join us for an interactive Poverty Simulation designed to help you understand the day-to-day realities faced by individuals and families living in poverty. Through this hands-on experience, participants will temporarily take on the roles of low-income individuals navigating challenges like housing, transportation, employment, and access to services.


Led by Kay Balcer, Certified Bridges Out of Poverty Trainer from Thumb Community Health Partnership, this event will provide insight into the barriers many people face — and how professionals and community members can take action.

  • Morning Session: 8:15 AM – 11:15 AM

  • Afternoon Session: 12:15 PM – 3:15 PM
