[Thumb Region, MI] June 1, 2026 — Thumb Community Health Partnership (TCHP) encourages men across the Thumb region to take steps to improve their physical and mental health. Men's Health Month is a time to raise awareness about health issues that affect men. Men are encouraged to adopt healthy habits, regular medical care, and open conversations about mental health. Many health problems can be prevented or treated successfully when found early through routine checkups and screenings.

"Mental and physical health go hand in hand," said Kay Balcer, Executive Director of Thumb Community Health Partnership. "Too often, men put off talking about their health or seeing a doctor. Men's Health Month is a reminder that taking care of yourself is one of the most important things you can do for yourself and your family."

Mental health is an important part of overall health. Stress, anxiety, depression, and other mental health challenges can affect anyone. TCHP encourages men to speak openly about how they are feeling and seek support when needed. One resource available to men is Man Therapy, a free online program designed to help men improve their mental health in a way that is engaging, practical, and easy to access. Man Therapy provides mental health screenings, stress management tools, and resources to help men take charge of their emotional well-being. Learn more at www.ManTherapy.org.

What Men Can Do to Improve Their Health

Thumb Community Health Partnership encourages men to take these simple steps during Men's Health Month and throughout the year:

• Schedule a checkup — Regular visits with a healthcare provider and dentist can help prevent health problems and catch concerns early.

• Get Covered — If you don’t have insurance sign up today to protect your health and your family finances.  Contact a Health Insurance Navigator or Counselor to learn about your insurance options https://www.thumbhealth.org/insurancecoverageassistance.

Get recommended screenings — Talk with your healthcare provider about screenings for cancers such as colorectal, prostate, and lung cancer, based on your age and risk factors.

Pay attention to your mental health — Take time to check in with yourself and recognize when stress, anxiety, or sadness may be affecting your daily life.

• Get enough sleep — Aim for consistent, quality sleep each night.

• Avoid tobacco and limit alcohol use — These choices can reduce the risk of cancer and other serious health conditions.

Taking small steps today can lead to better health and a longer, healthier life.

Throughout June, Thumb Community Health Partnership will share tips, resources, and information through social media and community partners to support men's health across the Thumb region.

TCHP invites residents, employers, healthcare providers, and community leaders to join in recognizing Men's Health Month and encouraging men to make their health a priority.
